Linda Bacigalupi (incumbent): I’ve lived in the North Fork Valley (mostly) since 1973 and have been a member of KVNF since its founding. I served on the board in the mid-1980s, and again later in the early 1990s when I took a turn as board president. I bring experience in fundraising, membership development and nonprofit management to work for KVNF.
Currently I am just completing another three-year term, this time as vice-president. During this term, I have served on the Executive and Development committees, worked on the successful fundraising campaign for the 89.1 transmitter upgrade and helped launch the station’s first stewardship program, the Turn It Up Club.
It is an exciting time to be working with the station again. In the last three years, we stepped up the news programming dramatically and plan to keep it a strong focus of the station. In addition, the new technologies which are available challenge the station’s capacity and creativity to “adapt and adopt” in ways that are most relevant to KVNFs audience. With possible reductions in federal funding on the horizon, healthy membership and underwriting programs remain as important as ever. I am running for another term on the board to continue to build KVNF’s strength specifically in these areas.
Smyth Boone: I am going on my thirteenth year of being an active participant with KVNF. I have hosted a radio show for the last twelve years and currently host ‘Room to Groove’ on Thursday afternoons. My participation and experiences have been acknowledged by being awarded volunteer of the year two times, and recipient of the Wally Award the year that I started the program “Talkin’ Music”. I have been an underwriter, show producer and major donor in the past and am a major donor for the new KVNF building.
I am personally connected and invested in the future of the station and feel it would be a great time for me to step up my participation and help by getting involved on the board of directors. Among my assets are a very good connection with volunteers, programmers and staff at the station, social and business connections in the valley and the region, and my love of radio as the powerful local/regional/world connection that it is. I love the community that KVNF provides for us all. I sincerely look forward to a bright and sound future for KVNF and look forward to adding my energy and skills to the board. Thank you.
Jay Canode (incumbent): After serving on KVNF’s Board of Directors for the past 3 years, I have decided to run for another term as board member with this inspiring organization of talented volunteers and am asking for the consideration of another term from its voting members. I bring to the table over 20 years of experience in professional broadcast media with an emphasis on broadcast video journalism and digital multi-media. I relocated to Paonia from Silverton, CO in 2007 where I co-founded, oversaw construction, and managed KSJC-LP FM. This full time volunteer position was some of the most fulfilling years of my career and this experience is what got me hooked on community public access radio. I currently serve as a volunteer DJ at KVNF when my schedule allows preferring to fill in for the more “free form” radio programs.
My role as a board member over the past 3 years has consisted mainly in helping keep the future of broadcast media within the scope of KVNF’s operations. From a more interactive website, to the prospect of serving a community of more digitally mined radio listeners, these are some of the themes I focus on. While I believe KVNF’s stalwart FM broadcast antenna will always be the anchor which links us to our listeners, I also believe the digital broadcast realm should not be overlooked when considering new methods that reach out to our community whether that community be the Western Slope of Colorado or planet wide.
Please consider allowing me to continue contributing to this vast brain trust of passionate keepers of the KVNF flame. I firmly believe KVNF anchors the special communities of Western Colorado together, indeed it has attracted me to this region like a moth to a flame.
Jill Spears: I have been a volunteer at KVNF for the past two years, working in the music department, manning the phones during pledge drives & auctions, and serving as a regularly scheduled DJ for ‘Room To Groove’, ‘One Woman’s Perspective’, and ‘The Redneck Riviera’. I also fill in as needed for other DJ slots and have even hosted ‘Musica Mexicana’. Essentially, if there is a hole in the volunteer schedule – I will try to step up and fill it.
For the past two summers, I have spent all of my Thursday evenings working the KVNF booth at the summer concert series in Ouray, Ridgway, and Paonia. I’ve enjoyed connecting with our current listeners/members and engaging new friends to become a part of the KVNF community. Last year, I was acknowledged with the volunteer of the year award. In addition to my volunteer time, I am a member of the Turn It Up Club and contribute regularly and generously to KVNF.
I have an extensive business background that is a great fit for facilitating the role of the KVNF Board of Directors. I’ve worked in healthcare management for over 30 years, and participated in several successful start-up ventures. For 18 years, I’ve run my own consulting business – specializing in organizational turnarounds and restructuring. My work environment is demanding and requires a command of knowledge in strategic planning & implementation, fiscal funding & accountability, organizational & change management, legal compliance, and technological know-how. I’ve worked with small to multi-million dollar businesses and am familiar with all aspects of business operations. I am a collaborator with an “espirit de corp” leadership style and proven abilities to achieve success.
In addition to my valuable business skills, I bring energy, enthusiasm, commitment, reliability, and a tireless work ethic. I feel that all of these attributes are essential for meeting the challenges that face KVNF today, and in the future. I would like to deepen my connection with the KVNF community and believe I can make a formidable contribution to KVNF as a board member. I respectfully ask for your support and vote.
