In the second report of a two-part series, KVNF’s Marty Durlin talked to Horn about the general decline of birds in a world where human population and activity is on the rise.

Mon, 27 May 2013 19:03:56 +0000 Marty Durlin 10873 at http://kvnf.org iSeeChange: Birder Evelyn Horn KVNF Local Newscast: Monday, May 27, 2013 http://kvnf.org/post/kvnf-local-newscast-monday-may-27-2013
Headlines:

City of Montrose installs solar energy system at wastewater treatment plant

Deadly Glenwood Canyon construction zone to end June 3

Parachute Creek tests benzene-free

Delta County Commissioners to announce decision on Powell Mesa hen-laying operation at hearing on Tuesday

Evelyn Horn on the state of birds Mon, 27 May 2013 14:44:02 +0000 Brian Cambria 10867 at http://kvnf.org iSeeChange: A Better Year for Birds http://kvnf.org/post/iseechange-better-year-birds
May 11 was Colorado’s Migratory Bird Day, celebrating the nearly 500 species that live in the state or pass through it. Local naturalist, birder and author Evelyn Horn has spent the past twenty years or so focused on birds. In 1989 she and her husband Al moved from Las Vegas to Eckert and settled near Hart’s Basin, or Fruitgrowers Reservoir, which is controlled by the Orchard City Irrigation District (OCID). People had just been banned from the reservoir because of e-coli, and the absence of human activity made it more attractive to birds.
