"Uranium Drive-In" Tells Story of Struggling But Hopeful West End

The proposed uranium mill would be located in Colorado's Paradox Valley in western Montrose county, but as for now Energy Fuels has no plans to move forward with the project.

Residents from Montrose County’s West End recently gathered for a screening of “Uranium Drive-In,” a documentary that tells the story of the ill-fated Piñon Ridge Uranium Mill, and a tight-knit community desperate for jobs and some hint of a brighter economy.

A Regional Look At Retail Marijuana

James Leonard, owner of the Doctor's Garden, Carbondale's first outlet for retail marijuana sales. Leonard's medical dispensary opened for recreational sales on January 15.

The first batch of Colorado's recreational marijuana stores opened this month on New Years Day in Telluride, Breckenridge and Denver among other places, marking the beginning of what's expected to be a multi-million dollar industry.

Flock spotted loitering on a local lawn. "The nerve of these fowl is an amazing thing to behold," says one KVNF listener.

Unbeflockinglievable: A Flocking Story

A flock of flamingos broke out of the Washington, D.C. Zoo and appear to be headed towards Paonia, Colorado traveling via KVNF's airwaves. They’re expected to land on the 90.9 frequency in Paonia on February 1st.

While the details of the birds' escape remains unclear, they’ve been identified as a group of activists out to give a leg up to community radio. Their activism tactics will include staging stand-ins in resident's front yards and employing the silent treatment.

KDNK's Ed Williams reports that long lines and high taxes are not deterring a steady stream of customers at the shop, called the Doctor's Garden.
