Garfield County Asks Governor to Intervene on Insurance Rules

Garfield County wants Governor John Hickenlooper to intervene with the state's new health insurance rules. The county has some of the highest premiums in Colorado under new guidelines. which are part of the Affordable Care Act.

Fatal Wreck on Stewart Mesa Road Kills One

27-year-old Jacob Saunders was killed on Tuesday after an accident at the intersection of Crawford Road and Stewart Mesa Road in the North Fork Valley.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a call about the accident was received just after 8 am Tuesday morning.

Authorities say Saunders was driving south on Crawford Road from Paonia when he was struck by a 1989 Ford Pickup traveling westbound on Stewart Mesa Road. The driver of the pickup reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the car.

Forget The Golf Course, Developers Use Farming To Sell Suburban Homes

The Bucking Horse subdivision in Fort Collins, Colo., will include a working CSA farm, complete with historic barn, farm house and chicken coop.

For decades, housing developments in the suburbs have come complete with golf courses, tennis courts, strip malls and swimming pools. But make way for the new subdivision amenity: the specialty farm.

A new model for suburban development is springing up across the country that taps into the local food movement. Farms, complete with livestock, vegetables and fruit trees, are serving as a way to entice potential buyers to settle in a new subdivision.

Bross Was First Luxury Hotel In Delta County

Delta County Commissioners recently named two historical landmarks, one being the Rogers Mesa Community House, the other the historic Bross Hotel. 

The Bross was built in 1906 and according to early newspapers, was Delta County's first luxury hotel (and early on, its only one.)

Now, after over 100 years and eight different owners, the Bross is a bed & breakfast.
