Proposed Merger would create Flour Milling Goliath

Farmers in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska harvest about one-third of the nation’s wheat acres, according to the most recent Agricultural Census.

Fall is planting time for wheat across the Great Plains and this year’s crop went into the ground while big changes were underway in the wheat market. Some of the biggest players in the flour milling industry are joining forces to make the country’s largest miller even larger.

Paonia Eagles Win First State Title in Over 50 Years

The Paonia Eagles are Class 1A State Champions in football after beating out Centauri 32-24 on Saturday at Paonia Town Park. 

The Paonia Eagles football team experienced transformation this season, going from an average team with an average record in 2012, to hosting the Class 1A championship game on Saturday.

The Eagles posted a 10-game winning streak on their way to a 12-1 ecord, upsetting rivals Hotchkiss and the defending state champion Cedaredge Bruins along the way. In the state semifinal game, Paonia trounced the #1 ranked Buena Vista Demons.

In 1610, Galileo Galilei became the first person to observe another planet, Jupiter, and its 4 largest moons, Callisto, Europa, Ganymede, and Io.   For the next 380 years, most scientists believed that those moons were similar to our Moon, that is, rocky spheres without activity or atmosphere.
