KVNF Sports Report: 9/13/12

Hotchkiss outside hitter Brielle Palmer goes up for a kill shot against Paonia’s Carson Pipher (11) and Abby Campbell. Paonia won the match in three. The two North Fork rivals will play again on Oct. 6.

It’s been a busy week for local prep sports teams. KVNF’s sport reporter Tamie Meck has these highlights.

After a five-year hiatus, the rivalry between the Delta and Montrose football teams was resurrected last Friday, when Montrose junior Angelo Youngren scored three touchdowns and kicked five extra points in the Indians’ 35-0 routing of Delta. The XX // Coexist

9.10.12 Young Turks

If you haven’t heard The xx before, their unique sound is hard to describe, but it's irresistible. Bob Dylan // Tempest

Released 9.11.12 Columbia Records

Not many artists stay sharp, relevant, and great into their 70’s and later (Picasso, Neil Young, Vladimir Horowitz, et al., come to mind), I have no problem including Bob, at 71, in this elite group. If you are a Dylan fan and don’t have this record you must run, not walk, to your computer and order it.

Yesterday afternoon, the Delta County Commissioners took additional evidence and testimony on two applications for laying hen operations in the county. One of them, Western Slope Layers, has been operating for a few months already on Powell Mesa. KVNF’s Ariana Brocious reports that the hearing was required after a district court sent the commissioners original approval of both applications back to the county for further review.
