Ali Lightfoot

Program Director

Ali Lightfoot began her career in television production where she hired cast and crew, managed budgets and assisted in all aspects of production and post-production on a wide variety of projects. She has worked in a more creative capacity as well: acting, directing and writing for TV, film and radio.

Ali became KVNF's program director in 2009.  She produces and develops programming for KVNF as well as training and scheduling more than 70 volunteer DJs.   Ali produces radio documentaries and directs the youth reporting project "Pass the Mic," where young reporters (ages 8-12) create film and radio documentaries about their community.

"North Fork Valley" is a new book published by Arcadia that chronicles the beginnings of Paonia, Hotchkiss and Crawford. The authors, Kathy Addams McKee – a fourth Generation native of the valley and Claudia Sutliff King, a lifetime resident, compiled pictures and history of the North Fork Valley from the 1880’s through present day. Here, the authors talk about area's rich heritage and history.

The Western Slope Constitutional Patriots meet up once a month in Delta county at various locations. The groups aligns themselves with the tea party movement and met with KVNF's Ali Lightfoot last April to talk discuss candidates, politics, ideas and the constitution.

Vox Pop: Amendment 64

People on the streets of Hotchkiss and Paonia weigh in on amendment 64 - a controversial measure on the ballot in Colorado. Amendment 64 proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to regulate marijuana like alcohol in the state. It would allow those over the age of 21 to grow, process, and transport up to 6 marijuana plants with certain restrictions. It would allow the state to enact an excise tax on marijuana sales to be credited to an account for construction of public schools. And finally, it would require the state legislature to enact legislation concerning the growth, processing and sale of industrial hemp.

The kids speak with author - Craig Childs, Jeff Schwartz of Big Bs, Dr. Heidi Marlin, local artist - Maya Arthur, president of the Oxbow coal mine - Jim Cooper, local bike enthusiast - John Eckert and long time resident and rancher - Norm Smith.

"Pass the Mic" is a youth storytelling and news corps program developed by KVNF community radio in Paonia, Colorado, in partnership with the North Fork Heart & Soul Project. Over the course of two years, 14 young reporters will be assigned to a "beat" reporting on a North Fork industry. Youth participants learn the skills of how to produce interviews and stories in a multi-media context, and will be supported in presenting their final projects to the valley.

Local Libertarian, Ron Bain, shares his viewpoints on politics, the presidential candidates, agenda 21, Ron Paul and his paper, the Western Slope Watchdog.
