Travis Bubenik

News Director

Travis graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where he spent most of his time working for UT's student-run radio station, KVRX. There he hosted an alternative folk program for over 2 years, served as Traffic Manager, and was eventually appointed Station Manager.

After graduating, Travis took on a full-time radio internship with Marfa Public Radio in the sprawling Chihuahuan Desert region of West Texas. In June of 2013 he joined KVNF as the News Director , and reports on regional events and issues. He also produces KVNF's weekly public affairs program Local Motion.

Connecting the Drops: Statewide Call-In Show on the Colorado River

Connecting the Drops is a collaboration between KDNK, KRCC, KGNU and the Colorado Foundation for Water Education. You can find out more at yourwatercolorado.org

On September 15th, KVNF presented a statewide call-in show on the Colorado River, looking at water issues and the future of the Colorado River. 

The program is a part of the year-long collaborative reporting series Connecting the Drops, and is hosted by KDNK in Carbondale, KRCC in Colorado Springs and KGNU in Boulder. 

Guests on the program include Taylor Hawes, a Nature Conservancy program director (who testified before a Senate committee on the Colorado River), Jim Pokrandt with the Colorado River District, and a representative from Colorado Springs Utility.

Ali Lightfoot talks about KVNF's Pass the Mic Project

This Saturday, December 7th at the Paradise Theater, KVNF is screening a series of documentary films on the Pass the Mic project, featuring the full-length interviews our youth reporters conducted themselves.

The event is free and open to the public, and runs from 3-4 pm.

I recently spoke to Ali about the project, and what she’s learned from working with youth reporters.

Youth Reporters Cover Energy Issues for Pass the Mic

For the past few months, KVNF’s Programming Director Ali Lightfoot has been helping local kids produce radio stories as a part of our youth reporting project, Pass the Mic.

The project is now in its second year and is a collaboration of KVNF and the North Fork Heart and Soul Project. The stories these kids produce tackle a number of contentious issues, one of them being the energy industry.

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, KVNF's Brian Cambria stopped in at Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss to talk with Marsha Grant and Toni Hanna during a volunteer-heavy event to wrap Christmas presents for children of the North Fork Valley. He captured an audio postcard to kick off the Christmas season.

A Trip to the Trading Post Kitchen

The holidays are officially here, and while Thanksgiving may have come and gone, there’s still plenty of festivities to be had in the coming months.

And of course, what would the season be without food, and lots of it?

To get you into the holiday spirit and prepared for long, laborious hours in the kitchen, we took a visit to a cooking class hosted by Chris Bailey at the Old River Road Trading Post in Paonia.
