Travis Bubenik

News Director

Travis graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where he spent most of his time working for UT's student-run radio station, KVRX. There he hosted an alternative folk program for over 2 years, served as Traffic Manager, and was eventually appointed Station Manager.

After graduating, Travis took on a full-time radio internship with Marfa Public Radio in the sprawling Chihuahuan Desert region of West Texas. In June of 2013 he joined KVNF as the News Director , and reports on regional events and issues. He also produces KVNF's weekly public affairs program Local Motion.

Local Motion: North Fork Air Quality Study

Today on Local Motion we talk with three of the people involved with the North Fork Air Quality Study, a year-long project put together by CU-Boulder, the Western Slope Conservation Center and the Delta County School District. 

The project will use low-cost, portable and permanent monitoring devices to get baseline measurements of air quality in the North Fork Valley.

iSeeChange: Are Fires a "Rising Threat" for Wildlife?

Recently on the Almanac, Peter Cullen noticed he hasn't seen many bears in the mountains of New Mexico this year.

Bears are foragers, and Cullen says the lack of piñon, oak and juniper trees caused them to head down to mountain towns looking for thrown-away leftovers.

That got us thinking about our bear populations here in western Colorado.
