Jamey Johnson & Guest Artists // Living For The Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran

Released 10.23.12 Mercury Nashville

Tribute albums are a dicey thing and usually don’t work. “Beat the Retreat” (tribute to Richard Thompson) & “Timeless: A Tribute to Hank Williams” come to mind as ones that really work. This one is equally well done. Jamey has assembled an all star cast to sing with including Alison Kraus, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Emmy Lou Harris, Willie Nelson, Ray Price and others. The sequencing of songs on this is very well done and one can listen right through it smoothly. Hank Cochran wrote a lot of great country crooner songs, with some great stories in them. The duet with Willie Nelson on “Don’t You Ever Get Tired of Hurting Me" is incredible. I liked most of the tracks, but the first cut with Alison Kraus is especially great. While I’m not as expert with country as some other genres, I’m getting there. This is a great place to hear Hank Cochran’s music performed by some of the best musicians around. Great stuff! It kept me up late listening.
