Local Motion: Delta County Citizens for Animal Welfare and Shelter (CAWS)

CAWS
CAWS

For this episode of Local Motion, we spoke with two members of the Delta County CAWS organization.

CAWS works to provide shelters and resources for dogs and cats here in our part of the state.

Their mission is to end the suffering of pets by cutting down the number of unwanted births, and by encouraging people to adopt cats and dogs that others might not want.

The organization recently launched a capitol campaign to build a new county-wide animal shelter, which would be the first of its kind for Delta County. Joining us to talk about the project, and the overpopulation problem in the county when it comes to cats and dogs, are CAWS Board President Rand Kokernot and Secretary/Shelter Manager Joanna Kalenak.

Since we spoke with Kokernot and Kalenak, news broke that CAWS has renewed its contract with the City of Delta to keep its current shelter in place while the group finds property for the new, county-wide shelter.
