Six candidates for seats on the board of the Delta Montrose Electric Association participated in a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters on Wednesday, May 15th. KVNF's Marty Durlin recorded the event. Voted ballots must be returned by mail to DMEA no later than June 13, or members can vote in person at DMEA's annual meeting at the Hotchkiss Senior Center, 276 E. Main Street, Friday, June 14, from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Beezley Journal Offers Glimpse of the Past

Will Beezley was an orchardist and farmer who lived up Steven’s Gulch just outside of Paonia. In the 1930s, 40s and 50s, he kept a daily log of his tasks, along with the weather and conditions. The brief entries offer a glimpse of his work on the land and his chase with water. The journals are now in the hands of Paonia resident Amber Kleinman, who has been selecting and posting entries for ISeeChange at thealmanac.org. She was interviewed by KVNF’s Marty Durlin, who asked her first about the process of transcribing the journals.

For every miner, there’s a family – and in the best cases, the family offers a support system that allows the miner to go into the dark to work various shifts under sometimes dangerous conditions, sleep during the day, adapt to various clocks and take it in stride when there’s a disruption of work or routine.
