Fire at Stahl Orchards in Paonia Took 5 Hours to Extinguish

Paonia Fire Chief Mike Byers and his volunteer crew responded to a fire in a shed belonging to Stahl’s Orchards just outside of Paonia about 4 pm Monday afternoon. Twenty-one fire-fighters and seven trucks were involved in fighting the blaze, which took five hours to extinguish.

Rockslide Closes McClure Pass Early this Week

Update: Pass is officially "open". CDOT is alternating single-lane traffic around slide, and says to  "Expect long delays,  especially between 7AM and 7 PM during cleanup work." Read their official statement here.

The closure of Highway 133 south of McClure Pass due to a rockslide will likely last throughout the week. Falling boulders including one rock as big as a dump truck forced the closure Sunday morning.

Breaking News: Fire Raging at Stahl Orchards in Paonia

This just in. There is a sizeable fire burning at Stahl Orchards, located at 631 Stahl Rd in Paonia. 

According to reports from neighbors, there are several fire trucks and many firefighters fighting the blaze that began sometime around 3:30pm today, Monday 5/6/2013. Robert Leuallen and Lynne Anderson report that there have been at least two large holes cut in the building to release heavy smoke.

As of 7pm, there have been no reported injuries. The community has rallied, and the Crawford Ladies Fire Auxiliary is said to be taking meals to the firefighters.
