National Transportation Safety Board Investigating Aspen Plane Crash

One person is dead and two have been injured after a fiery plane crash at the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport on Sunday afternoon.

Wind has been cited as a possible factor in the plane crash that killed one person and injured two others on Sunday.

The Aspen airport can be a particularly challenging place for pilots. Aspen Public Radio’s Marci Krivonen spoke with some seasoned pilots from the area and eyewitnesses to the crash.

"Amnesty Box" at Aspen Airport Considered for Weed Disposal

Law enforcement has been gearing up for the start of recreational marijuana sales in Colorado.

As Colorado ushers in legalized retail marijuana, law enforcement is preparing for how to handle it. Adults 21 years and older are now able to purchase recreational pot at shops around the state.

The first retail enterprise won't open in the Aspen area until later this winter. Still, the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office there is preparing. Sheriff Joe Disalvo says he wants recreational weed to "succeed safely" in the resort town. He spoke with Aspen Public Radio's Marci Krivonen.

Denver Post Hires Marijuana Editor, Launches Pot Website

Colorado made history on January 1st as more than three dozen retail pot stores opened across the state. The Denver Post has hired a Marijuana Editor and launched a new website to track this new industry.

Across the state, more than three dozen retail marijuana stores opened for business on January 1st, marking a historic milestone for pot advocates. News reports showed lines outside of some Denver-area stores. And, people from around the country traveled to the state to purchase pot.

Christmas Tree Hunting In Pike National Forest

KRCC’s Maggie Spencer recently set out into the Pikes Peak Ranger District with fire prevention officer Dawn Sanchez and found the Gurzi’s of Colorado Springs on the hunt for their tree. She brought back this audio postcard.

Ouray County Mine Cited for Nearly 100 Safety Violations

Update Friday, December 20: According to the Watch newspaper, MSHA says the 97 citations handed out to Star Mine Operations in the first week of December were issued during so-called "spot" inspections, and weren't issued as violations that contributed to the deaths of two men at the Revenue-Virginius mine in late November.
