The recent closure of Integrated Insight Community Care came as a shock to nearly one hundred employees and its growing client population on the Western Slope. Over the past year, the multi-county behavioral health provider’s CEO Joel Watts came under scrutiny with the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing regarding numerous allegations over patient safety at the clinics.

League of Women Voters of the Uncompahgre Valley hosted four leaders of organizations working to preserve and improve water conditions in the Uncompahgre River Watershed. Leaders shared their organization's missions and activities, as well as conditionsthey believe need to be addressed the most to ensure long-term watershed health in the valley. Presenters: Tanya Ishikawa, Executive Director of Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership; Mendy Stewart, Education and Outreach Coordinator of Shavano Conservation District; Joel Evans, President of Gunnison Gorge Anglers chapter of Trout Unlimited and Melanie Rees, Board President of Friends of the River Uncompahgre.

KVNF's Cassie Knust speaks with Matt Jenkins, spokesperson for Montrose County School District, about the district’s threat reporting option, Safe2Tell, after hearing about the death of a 17-year old in Aurora who was shot over the weekend during a house party. Safe2Tell is an anonymous online reporting tool that students, families and community members can use if they suspect a threat or incident might occur. KVNF’s Lisa Young met with one local League of Women Voters in our region during its first in-person meeting since the pandemic.

They’ll discuss this year’s elections, including changes to precincts, election security, and how vote tabulation works. Carol Howe, VP of the local League, talks to Gavin Dahl about why they're convening this panel. Plus, the northern skies of the Navajo Nation are clearer after the closure of the coal-powered Navajo Generating Station. But the region also lost jobs and tax revenue.
