Uranium Mill Hearings Conclude

Paradox Basin in southwest Colorado

The state health department is deciding—again—whether or not to allow a new uranium mill in Southwest Colorado. It would be the first licensed in the country in more than twenty-five years. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment approved the project last year—but a judge threw it out, and called for more public hearings. Those were held in Nucla over the last week. They’re the latest in the larger debate about whether or not to revive the uranium industry here. Reporter Elise Thatcher has the story.

Gov's TBD Initiative Calls for Reform of State Constitution

A group tasked with tackling the state’s largest challenges says Colorado needs to reform the constitution and discuss putting more money into schools and roads. The report from Governor John Hickenlooper’s TBD initiative concludes that Colorado is on an unsustainable financial path. Bente Birkeland has more from the state capitol.
