We are very proud of the growth of our local news reporting here at KVNF in the last few years. Besides 2 daily local newscasts, KVNF also offers sports reporting, environmental stories and in-depth coverage of issues affecting our listening community.

Jake Ryan received his B.A. in Journalism from Western Illinois University.  After serving with Americorps and volunteering for a community radio station in Maryland, he graduated from the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. 

His pieces have been aired on Delmarva Public Radio, Maine Public Broadcasting Network, and New Hampshire Public Radio.  He enjoys board games, trying new things, and flying kites.

Laura Palmisano

KVNF  News Reporter

Laura Palmisano, an Arizona native, joins KVNF as a full-time reporter. She holds a degree in journalism with a minor in
sustainability from Arizona State University. Most recently, Palmisano worked as a Senior TV/Radio Reporter for Arizona Public Media, Tucson's NPR and PBS affiliate. Palmisano has also worked as a producer for KJZZ, Phoenix’s local NPR-affiliate, and as a production assistant for KAET Eight, Arizona PBS in Phoenix.

She previously reported for the State Press, ASU's campus newspaper, and Cronkite News Service. Palmisano has worked as a videographer and video editor. She was also a Scripps Howard intern with KNXV, ABC15 Phoenix.

Patricia Naft

KVNF Morning News Host

As KVNF’s new anchor for regional news and NPR’s Morning Edition, Patricia Naft brings to the table a wealth of on-air experience and talent.

Patricia’s been a KVNF DJ for over a decade, and graced the airwaves at KDNK in Carbondale before, where she shared her love of country music with listeners on a weekly morning show.

In addition to serving as the weekday voice for KVNF News, Patricia is also currently employed as a graphic artist.

Ali Lightfoot

KVNF Program Director

Ali Lightfoot began her career in television production where she hired cast and crew, managed budgets and assisted in all aspects of production and post-production on a wide variety of projects. She has worked in a more creative capacity as well: acting, directing and writing for TV, film and radio.

Ali became KVNF's program director in 2009.  She produces and develops programming for KVNF as well as training and scheduling more than 70 volunteer DJs.   Ali produces radio documentaries and directs the youth reporting project "Pass the Mic," where young reporters (ages 8-12) create film and radio documentaries about their community.

Bente Birkland

Capital Coverage Reporter

Bente Birkeland has been reporting on state legislative issues for Rocky Mountain Community Radio stations, including KVNF, since 2006. She keeps track of state politics throughout the year but is especially busy during the annual legislative session from January through early May, covering important bills, discussions, and the positions of our state legislators. Key stories for KVNF listeners she has covered this year include the state budget, proposed oil and gas legislation, and the passage of the Cottage Foods Act.
