Altman came to St. Louis Public Radio from Dallas where she hosted All Things Considered and reported north Texas news at KERA. Altman also spent several years in Illinois: first in Chicago where she interned at WBEZ; then as the Morning Edition host at WSIU in Carbondale; and finally in Springfield, where she earned her graduate degree and covered the legislature for Illinois Public Radio.
Donna first tuned in to KVNF in 1982 when she was camped at the south rim of the Black Canyon headed to Telluride Bluegrass. The dj was playing the Dead and since she was in the full throws of her own immersion of that world, it made a mark in her memory to hear them being played on the air "in the middle of nowhere".
When she reluctantly arrived in the County when sent here for her graduate school internship, she became a faithful listener - never anticipating that she would continue to live in the area - never mind begin DJing herself in 1989. Since that time, she has hosted what is now Free Range Radio most every other week as well as serving on the Board of Directors for a couple of terms.
