This just in. There is a sizeable fire burning at Stahl Orchards, located at 631 Stahl Rd in Paonia.
According to reports from neighbors, there are several fire trucks and many firefighters fighting the blaze that began sometime around 3:30pm today, Monday 5/6/2013. Robert Leuallen and Lynne Anderson report that there have been at least two large holes cut in the building to release heavy smoke.
As of 7pm, there have been no reported injuries. The community has rallied, and the Crawford Ladies Fire Auxiliary is said to be taking meals to the firefighters.
At approximately 7:20pm, a track hoe was brought in from a local Paonia road construction project to break down one of the walls in the building. Smoke has subsided significantly as a result.
