Today's episode of Local Motion features a conversation with new KVNF General Manager Rick Watts.
Rick arrived in Paonia just a few weeks ago with his wife Lisa and two of his six sons Max and Quincy. Rick’s experience with radio began in broadcasting school in Kearney, Nebraska, where he was Program Director for KOVF. After moving to Iowa from the upper Arkansas Valley in 2009, he worked as an Account Executive and Consultant for the Prairie Radio Communications group in Muscatine. He’s also worked as an Account Executive for Three Eagles Communications in Salida, Colorado, where in addition to sales duties he hosted a live daily talk program and an afternoon music program.
In addition to his radio experience, Rick brings to KVNF a diverse business experience – including many projects in real estate development and historic building preservation and rehabilitation.
He says his family has been looking to move to the North Fork Valley for the past seven years, and that beginning his job at KVNF fulfills his desire to pursue the higher calling of community radio.
Rick’s tenure follows that of long-time General Manager Sally Kane and Interim Director Christy Eller. KVNF’s Marty Durlin sat down with Rick last week for a conversation about his personal history and his vision for the station.
